Been busy writing and learning

Have neglected this blog for a while!

Been busy writing and learning. It is important to read and learn. Learning is an ongoing process, which is important to our personal development.

Have been writing a lot too. Have rough drafts written for a number of books and courses. Must focus on completing them.

I was asked to write a sketch which will be performed in April. Wrote it in English and then had to translate it into French. English humour is different to the French and the humour didn't always translate, but I think I've got there. Rehearsals have commenced.

I have also been considering my goals.

I read an article by Jim Rohn, the other day about setting our sails.

This makes me more determined than ever to set my sails in the direction of my goals.

To get to the destination (that you really wanted) at the end of the journey, one has to decide for sure where we want to go.

We also need to decide why we really want to go there.

Perhaps when we go off course, it's for a reason. Perhaps we are being shown that we didn't really want to go to the destination that we thought we were going to. Sometimes things have been created or invented by accident.

Sometimes we need to change direction as we realise our true reasons for going there.

I've never sailed, but I've driven on many long journeys. I'm taking the wheel of my future, but I'm prepared to take a detour, if it is positive. Last summer, I was driving back to our home, from the Alps. Our stay in the Alps had been wonderful and that was what our little break was about, visiting with family in the Alps.

But as I was driving along, looking forward to getting back to our home in Plaigne, I suddenly followed a sign post to a historical monument and natural reserve. My husband asked me what I was doing and the children asked me where we were.

I answered that I didn't know, but that I fancied a little adventure, before going home. We spent three wonderful hours there and then got back on course for home. If I hadn't have turned off course, we wouldn't have had that lovely experience. We reached our destination much happier and less fatigued, than if we had just driven straight there, all be it a bit later than expected.

Proofreading & Translating

I am dedicated to the pursuit of correctness!

Can you see the 4 deliberate mistakes in the introductory paragraph?

What is a proofreader?

A proofreader usually reads a manuscript after it has been edited and type set. They check for and correct any grammer, spelling, punctuation, word usage or sense, and printing errors. Often the proof, as it is called, is compared with the copy editor’s copy, making sure that corrections have been properly carried out. Other times they have nothing to compare it to. In both cases, they mark the copy with standard proofreader marks that are understood by writers and printers. When they read copy from a computer screan, they make the corections themselves. If you have a second language, as I do, such as French, you can do proofreading of translations from the second langauge into English. As I have patience, an eye for detail and a passion for books, I enjoy proofreading. Perhaps it is the teacher in me! To be a proofreader, you need a love of books and to enjoy reading and to be good at spelling and grammar, but this is not enough. You also require mental stamina, a lot of patience, logic, application, organisation, concentration and the tools of the trade (red and blue pens, pencils, rubber...).

What is a translator?

A translator is a professional person who converts texts from one language to another, but also translates the message in the text and reproduces it for an audience with a different language, as well as a different social and cultural background. So, to be a translator one must be able to do more than just be able to read, speak and write another language. Many translators specialize; that is, they concentrate on certain subjects, areas or markets. Some of these translators have qualifications such as degrees that qualify them to do a certain type of translation, while others have gained relevant experience whilst working in specific subjects or occupations.

Why bother to proofread?

Did you see my statement at the top of the page? That sums it up! Accuracy is so important. The days of embarrassing mistake-ridden texts must come to an end! I am sure that everyone, like me spots mistakes in newspapers, books (I have even spotted them in books about proofreading), brochures, magazines and so on. These mistakes take my attention away from what is being said to me in the text, and therefore the text is not doing its job properly. Accuracy in any business documentation, in any language, is essential because it reflects that organization’s commitment to quality. The world could be in a bit of a mess without proofreaders! A great amount of information is published today, from books, magazines, newspapers, manuals, newsletters, brochures and leaflets to online books, newsletters, e-zines, and of course, websites. The English language is too complicated for your computer chips and your spellchecker is not enough. I read an amusing poem recently which showed this to be very true. The computer has, however, opened up avenues for proofreaders and most businesses print literature in one form or another so a proofreader is a very necessary human being.

In the case of translations, the proofreader is needed to insure that the translations have been done correctly. A proofreader can improve the quality of a translation. The combination of a translator and a proofreader insures that cultural and grammatical skills are always considered. One should have the same experience reading a translated document as reading the original. So, the proofreader reads and compares the original and the translation to verify the translators work, making sure that the target language is accurate grammatically, but also socially and culturally.

Eye of the Tiger

I am a teacher, a student and a mother of seven children as well as being an online entrepreneur.

I am going for the Eye of the Tiger.

Do you know what I mean?
That look in the tiger’s eyes. That look of great sagesse, that says:
“I know.”
It is that look that shows that the tiger has learned the wisdom, that he is streetwise (or in this case, junglewise). There is so much depth, so much knowledge and knowing and presence in that regard. The tiger is majestic in every sense.

Some small cats have it too.
Our cat, Harry Potter, gives you that look that says ‘I know.” It also says “I’m reading you; I’m taking everything in; I’m reading the situation, the circumstances and learning from it all for the future.” He communicates with me with those eyes too.

We used to have a beautiful Siamese cat called Fripouille. He was a wild cat who my young daughter tamed and adopted. His deep blue eyes showed such depth, such wisdom. You could feel him reading you, drawing from you. He and Harry were great friends; they were ‘bloodbrothers.’ They were both mentors too.

A mother cat brought her three newborn babies to my door and pleaded with me to help her. The whole family looked after them, including Harry and Fripouille. They were the kittens’ mentors. The relationship between Harry, Frip and the kittens was an inspiration.

We can learn a lot from that sagesse and that relationship. I am going for that Eye of the Tiger. I have my mentors; among them is Stone Evans. I am a ‘student’ and a ‘mentor.’

Learning, education in all facets of life is an ongoing process. Education is the key, the doorway to the future

I am studying genealogy to find my roots, why I am here and why I am like I am. I am a member of a personal development program to learn how I can change, progress, obtain the eye of the tiger, along with it’s majesty. I am passing on that education, that knowledge.

A life best lived is designed. It is not achieved by accident.

Internet Home Business -- Little People

“You’d better run for cover when the pup grows up
We’ll fight like twenty armies and we won’t give up”

These two lines are from “Little People”, a song from the musical drama, “Les Miserables.” Other lines are:

“It only goes to show what little people can do……
So never kick a dog because he’s just a pup……”

This sums up my feelings. I have read a number of e-books and e-courses, as you probably have, and they say pay for this, pay for that and just one more thing and one more……
Very often it says something like: “if you can’t afford it, then you shouldn’t be here.” This annoys me. In fact, I take it as an insult. It is not about how much money you have. Certainly, if you have a lot of money to begin with, you are off to a head start, BUT if you have little money or a limited income, do not let that stop you. It will take longer, but you can succeed.
Remember, little people make the world go round.

Whatever happened to intelligence? Is it not worth anything any more? I say “Yes it is.”

If you are a ‘little person,’ but you have intelligence and stamina, then you can achieve your goals.
With determination you can achieve your goals.
With the right ATTITUDE you can achieve your goals.
Have I forgotten something?
Oh yes.
With a lot of effort (in the right direction) you can achieve your goals.

You do not switch on your computer and ‘Hey Presto’ it all falls in to place. We wish for such a miracle, but nooooo.

Give and you shall receive; work and you shall benefit. The beauty of an online business is that you can work at home, anywhere, in fact, in your own time and you are your own boss. If you want to take time off for your family, you can.

Do not be a sheep; be a Lion. Learn from others, yes, but be creative and do your thing.

Actually, my lovely Daddy said that I was a sheep – a black sheep, a rebel. Of course, he meant it in a positive sense. He meant that I stood out, that I did not conform, that I did not follow everyone else and do things because that is how they are done.
I always ask why and how. I have my own ideas.

You too?

Make decisions and take action. Do not just talk about it; DO IT.

The important thing is to have goals, to target them and to keep hitting them, using the right effort in the right direction. You can learn this. There are online businesses that are also personal training and development programs where you earn as you learn. You can find details on my site.

I am learning in a group at the moment with Stone Evans, Mike Ward and Kent Jacobson.

In conclusion, my belief is that your business will work if your intentions are good. Everyone of us is born with a life purpose. You can learn what that is.

If you work in the right direction, you will succeed in your business and fulfill your life purpose. You can do it.

Money is not the only ingredient. I would go so far as to say that it is not the main ingredient. All the ingredients, business, money and education, mixed together in the right way can make a super cake.

This pup is growing up and stinging bears on the way.

You have probably heard that you have to be in
'affiliate programs' to get ahead on the Internet. We
all hear about people making huge incomes being a
'super affiliate' and how these programs are the
greatest thing since sliced bread.

But what IS an affiliate program and can we really make
any money with them? Sometimes it's very confusing.

To help clear up that confusion, following are some
basic definitions along with a checklist that is useful
when examining any program.

What Is "Being An Affiliate"?

Being an affiliate simply means that you sell someone
else's product and earn a commission when you do so.

Webster's Dictionary defines the word 'affiliate' this
way...

Affiliate: [verb] To associate as a member [affiliates
herself with the local club]

That's exactly correct. When you become an affiliate
you are associating with the product or service you
will be selling. You are loaning them your reputation.

Don't forget that. Every email you send, every contact
you make, reflects on you. And the company's action
will reflect on you as well, so choose wisely.

Being an affiliate is simply a fancy Internet way of
saying that you are going to be a commissioned
salesperson.

Does It Really Work?

Yes, it does. It is true that you can make very good
money with affiliate programs, but it is not automatic.
You must still understand the process of marketing and
do the work. And it's not always quick.

But if you choose great programs, do some of the work
(and take advantage of the tools they offer) you can
grow a powerful income in a short period of time.

It's equally true that you can waste tons of time and
money on them and your reputation can suffer if you
don't choose carefully.

Here is my checklist for choosing affiliate programs. I
hope it works for you too.

Affiliate Success Checklist

1. Make Sure The Product Being Offered Matches You

If your passion is embroidery, you probably won't do
too well with car parts sites. Stick with what you know
at first and, once you learn how to promote on the
Internet, move on to different products.

2. Check It Out

Don't just jump in because it's easy. Ask yourself this
question; is the product or service you are affiliating
with something you would bring to your best friend? If
not, you may want to keep looking.

3. Talk To Current Affiliates

Ask for a list of happy affiliates. Ask them some key
questions such as did they get the help and support
promised? Are they being paid on time? You get the
idea.

4. Think Long Term

If your first arrangement doesn't pan out, don't give
up. Many people on the net are making excellent incomes
with affiliate programs. You can too.

5. Go For Quality

Make a checklist of everything you want, find two who
meet the criteria, and go all out with those two.
Remember that it will be your reputation on the line.

6. How Well Do They Sell?

You need to ask how well the product or service you
will be promoting 'converts'. Conversion is simply the
number of people per 100 who buy something. At the
Directory of Ezines we convert 7 of every 100 visitors
to buyers.

You can expect this number to range from .5% to about
10%. Anything higher or lower and you need to be
careful about them telling you the truth.

Also, be aware that 'hot' products convert well while
they are hot but conversion drops with time. So be sure
to get *current* conversion figures.

7. What Is The Cookie Duration?

Most affiliate programs track using 'cookies' that are
set on the visitor's machine. You need to know how long
this cookie lasts and if it can be overwritten.

The reason this is important is that people don't buy
the first time. If the cookie life is short (say 90
days) and someone you refer buys six months down the
road you loose your commission.

It's the same if the cookie can be overwritten. If it
can, then someone who first learned about product X
from you, but clicks another link to buy, will not earn
you the commission you deserve.

8. Do You Earn 'Backend' Commissions?

This means do you get paid when someone you refer buys
a second product? This is vitally important. People
often buy two, three or more products from one site.
You should earn commissions for every product they buy.

9. Do You Earn Renewal Commissions?

If you send someone to a site where they pay a monthly
or quarterly fee, do you get paid every time or just
once? You should get paid every time.

10. Do They Support You?

Most people don't know, or have the time, to write ads
and create banners or graphics. You should expect the
program you join to provide these tools as well as some
training on how to sell their products.

an affiliate is Affiliates Alert. They offer a free
version, which does an excellent job.

Quick Guide to Getting Traffic to your Website with Free Tutorial Giveaway

It does not matter if you have a wonderful website if no one sees it. A query on a crawler-based search engine very often gets thousands of matching websites or pages. Of course, everyone with a website wants theirs to be in the top ten results, basically because most surfers will find a good result in the top ten. They will not bother to look on the next page of results.

There are various ways of getting traffic to your website and some of them are free money wise. They do, of course, cost time and effort, but you do not get anything or anywhere in life if you are not prepared to work.

So, down to work then.

Traffic Exchange:
You can begin with traffic exchanges. A Traffic Exchange is a program where you visit other websites in exchange for visitors to your website. An associate of mine has prepared a tutorial with easy step-by-step instructions, hints on how to succeed and recommended Traffic Exchanges. Keywords:
Choose your target keywords well. If you ask yourself « How will people search for my website? » the words you think they will be typing into the search box are the target keywords for your site. These target keywords must be positioned well on the web page. You must include them in the title tag or the pages will be poorly ranked. Then you need to reflect your keywords in the content of the page.

Building Links:
Every search engine will use link analysis as part of their ranking algorithms. By building links, you can improve how well your pages do in the ranking. You want links from good web pages that are related to your topic. This is a topic that needs discussion in an article of its own and will be gone into another time.

Advertising:
Remember to advertise offline as well as online in various classified adverts in various papers. It is better to do it on a regular basis.

These days, it seems like everyone wants to work
from home and make money on the Internet. But
before you even turn on your computer, the first

self-running Internet marketing system. It didn’t
happen without effort. It didn’t happen without
at least some initial investment of both time and
money and, of course, it doesn’t happen now
without me making sure that the taxes are filed
and the paperwork is done. But it happened.

I’m my own boss. I work from home according to my
own schedule and I get to pocket all the cash my
business makes. If you’re prepared to give an
e-business the time, the work and the money it
needs to get started and get growing, it can
happen for you too.

It would be nice to make a bundle of money quickly, with minimal effort, working in the comfort of your home. I would love money flowing into my bank account, working only a few hours a week from home, to have more time to spend with my seven children and my husband.

We have all seen the fantastic claims people make about making loads of money, AND how they can show you how to do the same thing. You may have fallen prey to one of these scam artists, selling you their latest « get rich quick » program. Me too. I tend to find the « good » in people, and I was « sold » by these marketing schemes a number of times, even after being scammed.

One was advertising the program as internet work and being ‘employed’ by thousands of companies. Well-known company names were given so I thought it would be legitimate if these companies were involved. I paid XX dollars and was given the same information that was given in the free affiliation program on the original sales letter page. In the members area I was given an advert link for a well-known affiliation site for which you had to pay an inscription and which I could have joined without already having paid $X. When I asked questions they were ignored and any help given was very limited.

In fact, as I had found with other programs too, I was given:

*outdated information
*non-working links
*links leading to other sites that asked for more money
*no help section
*no real email support

However, while sifting through websites, I was able to locate a couple of individuals that actually ran legitimate programs.

The owners were every day people like you and me that found a way to make extra money working from home on their computers. Their membership areas were impressive, with good quality information on how to make $100-$200 per day on your computer with a few hours work. Customers in online forums verified that they were making money through the sites. But don’t take my word for it. You can visit the best sites I found, below. See what you think.

Some do charge a minimal fee for access to their program, which is to be expected for any legitimate company that actually has people on staff who are dedicated to helping you get started. What a friendly and helpful group of people! If you do decide you are interested in this program below, I advise you to join quickly, as they may be charging more fees very soon.

Well, my search for legitimate Get Rich Quick programs has come to an end. I was seriously disappointed with much of what I found, and I strongly advise you to not take chances. Whatever you do, I wish you a healthy, prosperous year.
